We Are The Shoes

Auschwitz was liberated 75 years ago today, by the Red Army. Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

These images are from my previous visit to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Poignant, sobering and not to be forgotten.

Thanks for taking a moment to stop by.
This is so heartbreaking and so important. We must never forget.

Very thoughtful photo for today... sobering to realize something like this could ever happen. History needs to be taught so it is never repeated.

Thank you for sharing this impactful photo! So important for the current and upcoming generations to understand this truly happened and must never happen again. This photo speaks 10,000 words to me, having visited the Holocaust Museum in Israel...Yad Vashem.

Fabulous image. We went to Dachau when we lived in Germany. Even 50 years after the fact, it still felt evil.

Moving image. I remember vividly the shoes monument on the edge of the Danube in Budapest where hundreds were murdered- only their shoes remain as a reminder that we never forget them and we never allow such atrocities to happen again.

We went to Dachau last year - difficult, moving and an absolute must. We must not ever forget.

This scene gets to me every time. Iconic in what it represents, and how it is repeated in each Holocaust museum. So many lives lost and all the contributions to our world they would have made.
