Serenity

I've had quite a day! As it's my day off, I thought I would go for a walk this morning down Wood Lane. I didn't get very far because when I was standing in the corn field which has now been harvested waiting to see if the rabbits would appear to play, a couple of 4x4s turned into the field and drove right across the field to the other side. Well I decided to carry on walking along the lane but kept my eye on what they were doing. Between a gap in the hedge, I pointed my camera across the field and took a few pics of them, first when they driving across so that I could get the registrations of their vehicle and then when they had parked. There were 5 men in the vehicles who got out and proceeded to throw what looked like plastic carrier bags in front of and behind the 2 vehicles. One decided to have a wee but I took a few shots focusing on each of them so that I could blow the images up to identify who they were. I thought that maybe they were hare coursing so I walked back along the lane to the local garage where Steve was having coffee with his mates and asked them whether they thought that could be what they were up to and they agreed so I rang 101 the Police Non Emergency number and told them of my suspicions. I then went home to upload my pics and send them to our Safer Neighbourhood Team. Before I left Wood Lane though, both vehicles returned and drove off towards our nearest town. I've sent the pics off after having to upload them to picmonkey to compress them as our internet connection is so slow that they wouldn't go. I then had to send them a couple at a time so it took ages. I cannot bear to think that they might have been carrying out acts of cruelty and it is illegal in this country anyway.

Then this afternoon I went for a walk along the cycle track and I didn't really intend walking so far but I saw a little egret down by the brook so walked along that way. It's ages since I walked along there and they have trimmed the path which is now passable. Then stupidly, I decided to take a short cut through the wood to get back on the track but it is so overgrown and I got lost! I did feel a bit panicky but I found all sorts of things in there and will post a collage in one of my other albums. Then I turned round and walked back to the brook finishing up the other end by the river where I took this shot of the swan. I just thought he looked really nice and liked the reflections. If you look at the very first pic I put on here in 2011, it is an almost identical shot without the swan but not half as good quality as I only had a point and shoot camera in those days. I have just realised that this is not the same shot at all - I must be going mad. You can tell that the quality is not so good though if you look at it. You can see it at
http://365project.org/rosiekind/365/2012-05-08 and I think I took this with my first bridge camera not a point and shoot. No I've looked again and it was with my second bridge camera.

I'm worn out now though!!!
Sounds like a harrowing day.

Gorgeous shot, Rosie -- love the contrast and the reflections and the regal swan gliding through the scene. I had to laugh over your story of getting lost -- happened so often to me when I wandered off across the fields in Cornwall. The rabbit story is very disturbing. I hope the culprits are caught and fined or maybe even sent to jail. Not sure what rabbit coursing is -- is it racing or do dogs chase them or do I really want to know? Fav.
