I've been in tears this morning because I noticed that there were a lot of people milling around Beauty's field and 3 vehicles parked in front of the gate. When I came back down Wood Lane, all but one of the vehicles had gone and as I looked across the field I could see Beauty lying in the field and the gate was open so I walked across. A man (I presume was the husband of the owner) came walking across to meet me so that I wouldn't get too close. I asked him if Beauty was dead and he said yes but with a smile on his face said she was 35 years old. Cold heartless b------s had probably had her shot because they are moving and don't want the bother of her. The tears are still falling as I type this because I feel so sad that I won't be able to talk to her again. On the positive side, at least she won't be lonely anymore! How can I be so upset when the owners who should be just don't care! This is the last shot I took of her on 29 December. Goodbye Beauty RIP
Oh no! I am so sorry, Rosie. I know how much you cared for her. I really hope they did not shoot her. That is just cold, and heartless if they did. I am sure she is not lonely anymore, and having the time of her life running free.
Gosh how sad Rosie. I hate the thought that they shot her just because they didn't want her anymore. Perhaps she was sick and it was a kindness. It's a lovely photo of Beauty - a wonderful tribute to her!!
It's a lovely shot but, Rosie, don't judge the owners too harshly - people are not always good at showing their feelings. I have no idea if 35 years is a good age for a horse but perhaps she was not too well. Maybe she died of natural causes.
That is so sad Rosie, I'm sure they could have found someone to look after her. I know how you feel and time will heal some heartache. At least you have a lovely capture to remember her.
She looks fine in this photo Rosie but 35 is very old for a horse......they looked after her well up to now so no reason to think they were unkind at the end......doesn't look good that they were moving though but perhas they couldn't take her with them....better to be humanly put down than have her vaphange hands & go through trauma of new owners & a distressing move. She would have had a wonderful life in her field with great visits from you. You did her proud! Some horses are having a terrible time at the moment.....people can't afford to keep them & no one wants them. Be strong & think of all the love she had. A beautiful photo.
@happypat I'm afraid she didn't have a happy life and they didn't look after her very well. I phoned the RSPCA last Christmas day because she was up to 18 inches in a flooded field. Another person in the village called the RSPCA later on in the year because she was so thin and had all sorts of health problems and they hadn't bothered to get the vet. She is at peace now.
@rosiekind oh dearvRisie that is a different matter....it must have upset you every time to see that....some people have no idea! We have some sheep on the land that used to belong to us....we can see them at the back of our house. Harry has dragged at least ten out of the hedges & got one out if the ditch on New Years Eve. He phoned the farmer to come & take it home & put it under cover but he found it dead today....some people have no heart! Gives farmers a bad name,,,,we were never like that...I don't know how they can live with themselves!
Oh, Rosie, so very very sorry to meet you here under such sad circumstances... You've seen how much I, too, love animals, and this is heartbreaking to read. It seems almost out of the ordinary that I'm encountering several people here in 365 and in my own life that have suffered deaths of pets or friends just over that last week. I'm sorry you have to be amongst them. My thoughts are with you and prayers for your Beautiful Beauty...
How sad. It doesn't sound like they deserved the privilege of owning a horse. I hope she is now in a better place. At least she had a good friend in you.
Oh Rosie, I am so sorry to hear your sad news. I've read through the thread and I'd saddens me that her life was not as good as it might have bee. Your shot of her is a lovely tribute.
Hugs. Hopefully Beauty is at peace now, surrounded by love and company. You've been a good friend to her and i'm sure she appreciated the time you spent together.
beautiful Photo. Very Very sad. I lost my old mare the end of 2013 and I could not have been more heartbroken after 13years of having her in my life. x
It must have been a shock for you to find you friend had died but
thirty-five is a great age for a horse and it was probably kinder to have her put down than transport her to an unfamiliar place. A hard decision to make but it would have been instant and painless with her family around her. Horses form such strong attachments to people and other animals.
