I think this is the female red legged partridge who always comes to our garden each day. She used to come with her husband but we haven't seen him for a few weeks so I can only presume that he must have died. She scuttles across the lawn at a rate of knots if she hears you coming but this was taken out of the kitchen window.
I am off to a very dear friend's Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebrations in a moment. I have known them for more than half of my life and I must have only been 4 years old when they got married!

Awesome bird with such big eyes! Some of our backyard birds are together constantly for breeding and raising-the-young season, then I don't see them together until the next spring ...hopefully that is the case with your birds!
