Someone in the village told me about this young green woodpecker and told me where to look so I investigated this afternoon and lo and behold - there he is! I heard him before I saw him so it wasn't difficult to find him. He sounded quite distressed at one point and I was glad when his mother arrived nearby and started telling him to be quiet! What a sound she made! Anyway, I thought it would be a change from kingfishers although I did go to see them this morning.
