Imagine my surprise when I looked out of the kitchen window and saw a grey wagtail on one of the birdbaths! I have only ever seen one of these birds twice in my entire life and here was one in my garden. I was so excited and just had to keep snapping away. It was a shame that there was a lot of dying leaves behind him on some of the images so I must go and cut them down! I don't suppose I shall ever see one in the garden again but I was delighted. I do hope he comes back again.
Thanks for all your kind comments and Favs. It is always much appreciated.
Lovely find Rosie. I first saw one of these in the garden about five years ago. I was as surprised as you. I had seen the odd Pied Wagtail very briefly before there, but never a Grey.
I was even more surprised when it spent the winter in the area. Since then for the last four or five winters there has been one or two Grey Wagtails around regularly all winter.
They do like / need water, so make sure your water bath or pond remains full. Yours might stick around all winter with luck.
@markp Thanks for letting me know about yours and I shall definitely make sure the bird bath is kept full. It was on a bath that doesn’t get much attention from the other birds so I shall pay more attention to it and hope that he comes back
