He stopped by to investigate the camera nest box which sadly did not result in any little ones this year. I think he's a bit late for rearing any little ones but maybe he is seeking out next year's venue for his little ones to be reared. Or maybe he is just seeking out a warm place to roost when the weather gets even colder. I don't know but I hope he does decide to move in with his wife as earlier in the spring, they did begin taking in nesting material which I kindly supplied but got no further. I was disappointed but I shall just have to be patient. I'm not sure whether they will move in if there are bits of nesting material all ready in there. I shall have to do a bit of googling!
Lovely shot, Rosie. Yes they will use them for roosting in through the winter. Not so sure about Great Tits, but several other species like Blue and Coal Tits, Wrens and Goldcrests, will sometimes roost together in quite large numbers to stay warm. It is surprising just how many will squeeze into one box if its really cold.
