This is the first hedgehog that I've seen this year and I was so pleased to see him. He snuffled around and then went off and snuggled away under some twigs that I have piled up under the kitchen bay window. I keep all the twigs that fall out of the trees in the garden as they are great for getting the coal fire going in the winter. I expect he was exploring in readiness for when he has to hibernate. He's very welcome to stay with us over the winter and I hope he keeps coming to eat the slugs that come into the garden as I don't put slug pellets down because I don't want to harm the birds
