Stamp Stairs, Somerset House by rumpelstiltskin

Stamp Stairs, Somerset House

This was taken from the ground floor, looking up at the five storey staircase in the South Wing of Somerset House. The current building dates from the late 18th Century, and housed the Stamp Office, which was responsible for taxing items such as newspapers, playing cards, lottery tickets and hair powders. https://www.somersethouse.org.uk/history
