Wimbledon Men's Final, 1975 by rumpelstiltskin

Wimbledon Men's Final, 1975

I've been watching tennis constantly over the past two weeks, so to make up for the lack of photography, I am posting my Aunty's photos of Arthur Ashe. She took these as he arrived at the All England Club on the day he won Wimbledon in 1975.

Ashe played a near-perfect tactical match to beat Jimmy Connors in four sets, having never beaten him before. He remains the only black male player to have won a Grand Slam singles title, after victories at Wimbledon, the US Open (1968) and the Australian Open (1970).

Ashe campaigned for civil rights, and last month, a boulevard in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia was renamed in his honour. As you can see from the photos, he was also extremely handsome!
Wow, I think I actually watched that on TV at the time!!! 😂
