The Caak Seller.

photo 131
This gentleman is 75 years old so he told me. He spends about 3 days a week in Beirut selling Caak. Caak is a type of bread....it can be split open and is commonly filled with Picon (processed cheese) and a sprinkling of dried zaatar (thyme) and sumac. It's delicious!

You sure do learn a lot of intersting stuff on the ol' 365!

I like the flag as a backdrop to this. The colors don't distract from the subject (the old man), but help bring him out more as the focal point.

Yes to all of the above. I thought I would try to take more photographs of people but I don't think I will be able to find any as interesting as the ones you shoot!

Thanks for the cultural information. I like how you captured him with the flag in the background and caak nearby. What does the flag signify?
posted March 22nd, 2012
Ruth, you really have a knack for catching the essence of people. I'm always excited to see what you have to show us next.

@ososki It's our national flag. The actual flag has only one central cedar tree in the middle white stripe, with red stripes above and below. It's a pattern which is easily repeated so is good for making giant flags...this one seems to have been left over from a recent event!!
