Summer is back!! 32'C today.....a great reason to leave Beirut and head north to Koura - famous for reputedly the largest olive plains in the world!!! We saw thousands and thousands of olive trees......can't wait to go back for the harvest!
This tiny woman was walking on the road.......she said she was 75 years old, had 7 children who had died and 7 who were married. We offered her a ride and she regaled us with all sorts of tall stories until we dropped her some 5 miles away at her house; she had been planning to walk...until night she said (about 6 hours!).
Thanks for all recent comments and visits...always very much appreciate your time in doing so.
She sounds like a remarkable woman. I love how you captured the years (good and bad) etched onto her face. One doesn't have to be young to be beautiful as you've so richly displayed in this photograph.
She must have been so grateful to you for the lift but there again would take the walk in her stride...so to speak!!! The ladies of Beirut don't spend a fortune on cosmetics but have faces full of character, beauty in itself!
What a story. I can't imagine having 14 children! The face tells that's she's lived a long hard life! She must have been very appreciative of your lift.
Terrific portrait! Great story . . Very nice that you gave her a ride part of the way to her home! I greatly enjoy your photos, & stories about them. It opens the window into your part of the world, at a very human level, that we would not get to see otherwise. Thank you for sharing!!
Beautiful portrait- such character, and from the sounds of it, such a character. But with 14 children I guess you must be able to tell a few good stories!
Wonderful Ruth, you really immerse us in the culture, and more importantly the character and idiosyncracies of whre you live. This shot of a lovely old lady is exquisite. Her face definitely tells a story.
Ruth, your photographs speak volumes! Your kindness touches many people... myself included. Bless your heart for giving her a ride. She's beautiful and worthy of kindness.
