Iconic Pigeon Rock, Beirut. by ruthmouch

Iconic Pigeon Rock, Beirut.

Glorious spring weather, 18'C, a fresh breeze, sunshine and clouds.....it is so good to be alive!

During a study break on Sunday Grace and I had a walk near Pigeon Rock, huge waves were crashing on the rocks; we partook bountifully of the sea air and sunshine!
A couple of Syrian lads spotted me, said I had once taken their pic on a building site and wondered why I wasn't visiting any more!!! One was off home today, to be married, so I'll be dropping the photos with his friend!

Disturbing happenings Sunday evening: 4 Sunni clerics, in 3 separate incidents were stopped by lads on mopeds and dragged out of their cars. The news said most of the perpetrators were called Hassan and all of them were high on hashish........!!!! An interesting way to defuse a tense situation! As usual, stories and plots within plots, after all this is Lebanon and so many fingers are busy stirring the pot, hence I live each day searching for sunshine and beauty and largely ignoring those on the tv espousing boring, imminent catastrophe again.
Stunning!

Beautiful composition! Love the contrasts in scale.
The clerics thing is very weird...

Gorgeous composition with the flowers in the foreground.

And what is wrong with people the world over. Drugs, for one. But will we never learn acceptance of others differences?

It's a beautiful coast line there. On my first trip to Israel we went to the border between Israel and Lebanon- Rosh Hanrika and I loved the color of the sea against the rock cliffs. A beautiful place- and the border guards were very friendly- waving at us as we took our pictures where the signs clearly said you were not allowed to! I love the flowers here in the foreground- they are the epitome of the feeling you expressed.

Beautiful scenery. I'm not so sure about the clerics though. That smacks of some rather unpleasant sort of religious fanaticism brewing and at the moment that is the last thing Lebanon needs in an area of the world already bubbling with various strife and tensions.
March 18th, 2013
Very pretty! I like your focal choice! Looks like a stunning location.
March 18th, 2013

March 18th, 2013
Beautiful shot! Love your focus. The colors are fab!
March 18th, 2013
The crimes you spoke of are very disturbing! The picture on the other hand is beautiful. Maybe I will be able to show you Michigan's Pictured Rocks during this project. They are located in the northern shore of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and named very appropriately. They are picture perfect!
March 18th, 2013
It sure looks like a beautiful day there. I love your pov and dof.

Beautiful scenery, Ruth. Don't know what to say about the clerics. Think I agree with Paul.
March 18th, 2013
Stunning pov Ruth. Beautiful scenery. Your attitude to life is so refreshing.
March 18th, 2013
Worrying developments... yes, you need to switch off sometimes and your focus on the "here and now" in this picture against the iconic background is just right.
March 18th, 2013
beautiful shot and love the focus and composition! looks so warm and pleasant!
March 18th, 2013

Ruth, is the spot that Starbucks overlooks? I remember taking many photos of that Starbucks for my "coffee friends" at home..as .it was the most beautiful setting.
March 18th, 2013
Wonderful POV. The blue sky and sea are making me soo jealous!
March 18th, 2013
Wonderful shot--like the composition and the DOF. I think you're smart to dwell on beauty such as this and not the violence.
March 18th, 2013
A stunning structure, and love the flower, will be interested to see your photographs of the people and places.
March 18th, 2013
I love the focus on the flower rather than the rock! Beautifully done as always!
March 18th, 2013
Love the composition and the focus on the daisy. Can almost smell that sea air. Drove through mid-Wales today to and from Aberystwyth. Staggeringly beautiful countryside :0

I can see why you take refuge in such beautiful places. It's too bad everyone could at least attempt to do the same.
Looks like a wonderful place.
March 19th, 2013
Such a paradox between this optimistic image and the negative news.
March 19th, 2013
fav on the gorgeous spot you found! Sad about the violence... That is distrubing. :0(
March 19th, 2013
Beautiful photo. Love your sunny disposition. News here is pretty grim too, filled with everyday crime...etc.
March 19th, 2013
@malc I bet it was!!!! I nearly had a heart attack last summer, as I stood near the top of a hill in the "Mach Loop" and a couple of chaps from the RAF suddenly flew past!!!!!
March 19th, 2013
Just Beautiful Ruth!....If only all, could just stop and smell the roses! :)
March 19th, 2013

lovely shot Ruth! here in Malta we have a similar rock by the coast of Gozo, called Fungus rock...it gets its name as a unique fungus grows there which is not found anywhere else in the world apparently! Like your use of dof!

March 19th, 2013

March 19th, 2013
This is a gorgeous shot Ruth. The world can be very difficult, but you find the beauty.
March 19th, 2013
Beautiful! And your attitude n outlook too. We all need to focus on the sunshine in our lives and let it filter through.....
March 19th, 2013
Fav for this. It almost looks as though it was shot on vintage film, but not quite. And yes, very disturbing story indeed....

All the ingredients of paradise and yet....
You're quite right to focus on them and I'm so glad you did here! (See what I did there...!!)
March 24th, 2013
This is so beautiful, Ruth! The accompanying story is disturbing, which is why we hesitate coming, though we're giving it a good bit of consideration. My husbands family comes from a village near Mount Lebanon. I love the close up on the vegetation in the foreground. Brava!
