Curtains! by ruthmouch

Beirut's latest art installation by the young graffiti artist Jad Khoury. The Murr Tower or Burj el Murr built in 1974 was only partially built when the civil war erupted and construction was halted, it quickly became a much sought after sniper location by all militias. Since then it has remained an obvious reminder of the war as much of the urban landscape surrounding it changed.
Jad decided to dress the balconies with a colourful selection of curtains and the result is really quite cheerful!
Such a sad story but nice to see an attempt at normality with the art installation.

Fascinating art installation. How wonderful to make something so cheerful and colorful from a reminder of the war.

What an interesting approach to beautify something that is such a sad reminder of more unpleasant times. But terrific way to call attention to it though. It is a beautiful golden hour photo

What a creative idea to change the whole feeling when you view this to one of cheer and hope.
