Fading Away by rvwalker

Fading Away

This was taken a couple of days ago when we had freezing fog. It looks like a black and white image, but it isn't. Fog seems to remove color and transform scenes and mood.

Trending.
Great leading lines!

Very nice. I've had a lot of pictures like this lately that I didn't mean to be B&W, but turned out that way because of a lack of color! LOL!
January 7th, 2014
I like the repetition of the poles. "Cool" shot.
January 7th, 2014
Wonderful lines. Fav for me
January 7th, 2014
What a wonderful shot, Ross. I love how the poles fade away.
January 7th, 2014
Oh, this is an instant fav! I wanted to make/see a capture like this for some time. Yours is wonderful.
January 7th, 2014
The natural colour drain is awesome
January 7th, 2014
Fabulous shot! Love the leading lines and how the fog swallows up the poles.
January 7th, 2014
Beautiful shot! Love it!
January 7th, 2014
Freezing fog?! Awesome shot! We've seen a lot of pea soup, can't see through it, fog, but freezing fog? Never.
January 7th, 2014
Nice fade into mist

Ross, John is really interested in your albums and how you've gone about making them. We went through some of them..... Awesome photos of some of the places we've visited..... China, Japan....... the West....... What talent you and Linda have.
January 7th, 2014
Love the lines. Great picture.
January 7th, 2014
Wow...there is such subtle color. I love all those lines.
January 7th, 2014
I love the vanishing point to this.
January 7th, 2014
Wonderful repetition of the poles disapearing into the mist!!
January 7th, 2014
@cathywright I appreciate the fav, Cathy. I guess this one has a nice variety of lines.
January 7th, 2014
@peterdegraaff Thanks for the fav, Peter. We had a few days of really amazing fog.
January 7th, 2014
Love this

@beluga Thanks, Beluga. When we get winter fog here, photo possibilities appear everywhere!

@tinac1 @homeschoolmom @claeshields @darsphotos @amcg17 @m_olson @kjbadger @aglennc @moxy @cmc1200 @michelleyoung @pamknowler @sharrystar Thanks for all your great comments. Freezing fog is a strange phenomenon. There are photos to be found, but it is no fun to drive in.

@aglennc Thank you, Anita and John. The web site is fun, but I sure am behind on updates. Maybe I'm spending too much time on 365? Linda is a wonderful photographer, and we met in a camera club, so photography really changed my life.
January 8th, 2014
Really a great image. Love the leading line and the foggy moodiness of it.
January 8th, 2014
Wonderful as always!
January 8th, 2014
Lovely pov and leading line
January 8th, 2014
@rvwalker Great story about how you two met. My enthusiasm for photography started when I started following my Dad, an award winning amateur photographer, around on his photo shoots. I was about 10! Our daughter is now the 3rd generation with the hobby. But too much time on 365?? Uh, I think it's just what happens when you "join up". Me too!!
January 8th, 2014
Amazing... it does look like B&W...
How wonderful that you met Linda in a Photo Club :)
January 8th, 2014
Great repeating and fading shapes taking the eye in....forever
January 8th, 2014
Wonderful leading lines and composition and the feel of winter. I know what you mean about the fog changing colors to monotone, love that part of it.
January 8th, 2014
Fantastic monochrome that is really a color shot. The mist gives it a mysterious feel -- like the set of a Twilight Zone episode.
January 8th, 2014
@libertylady @tammyl @kbird61 @anazad511 @jgpittenger @sansjuan @taffy Thanks for your comments, everyone. Taffy, I hadn't thought about "Twilight Zone" in ages. That's a fun comparison.

ks
really nice..sure would like to see some sort of moisture in the air around here !
January 8th, 2014
@rvwalker Do you remember the episode of the three astronauts who think they've crash landed on the moon or something, start falling apart and one leaves for some reason. They find him and he's drawn a symbol in the sand and the episode ends as they are giving up and dying -- he'd drawn a telephone pole to try to tell them they'd fallen back to earth. That's the episode I had in mind with your image.
January 8th, 2014
Wonderful shot, Ross. I love this.
January 8th, 2014
I just love the feel to this Ross & those poles fading into the distance....Wonderful!
January 8th, 2014
I love the composition, as always, but what really grabs my attention is the different heights of all the telephone poles. Really cool the way it breaks it all up.
January 8th, 2014
Fabulous capture!!! FAV!
January 8th, 2014
@monkeykid Thanks for the fav, Therese. I like the photo effects we can get from fog.
January 8th, 2014
@momzo @cathieg @annbo @stillcrappysailor Thanks, everyone. I like your comments and viewpoints for this image.
January 8th, 2014
@taffy You know - that does sound familiar, but it was a long time ago. Rod Serling was a master at that sort of thing.
January 8th, 2014
Love the natural effect. Great shot. Its always great when that happens. A few people thought my "Suspended Animation" shot from the 5th was placed in B&W, but in fact its full color. Just the cold, monochromatic hues of the winter.
January 8th, 2014
@losthorizon Yep. I could see the browns in the cattails when I was there, but the fog sucked the light and color out of the photo.
January 8th, 2014
Nice fade!
January 9th, 2014
Great use of the fog. It looks chilly in your part of the world. Stay warm!
January 9th, 2014
@soboy5 @jenniferruge Thank you for your comments, Danny and Jennifer. We are finally having some snow today instead of this fog.
January 10th, 2014
Great fading photograph here Ross.
January 10th, 2014
fog here too!!!! very crazy weather everywhere! i like the fading repetition in the posts. i was actually looking for that same scene in our fog wandering around...couldn't find it without too much clutter around it! well done!
January 10th, 2014
@cassiejoy Thanks for the fav, Cassie. This was taken in the same area as "Frosty Lane", so more frozen fingers were involved.
January 10th, 2014
@moreyoulessme Thanks for your comment, Jerri. This is just on the edge of town, but there is still a lot of open space for photos. I can be there in about two minutes from my house!
January 10th, 2014
Fabulous line of disappearing lines. How cool is this?! Happy weekend, Ross!!
January 11th, 2014
@amandal Thanks, Amanda. I hope you have a great weekend too.
January 11th, 2014
Faved this while staring at hospital walls the other day. This is one of those shots I wish I'd taken Ross, and one of my all time favourites from your great project. I love the starkness, the disappearing lines, but most of all the overall composition. It's wonderful.
January 11th, 2014
@seanoneill That is high praise, Sean. Thanks for the kind words and the fav.
January 12th, 2014
FAV!
January 14th, 2014
