Fire Protection

A forgotten fire hydrant.
I love the flame-like coloring of the hydrant against the snow!

Complete with left behind hose!

A strange event to leave this all behind

You mean the fire department doesn't realize they left their hose behind....? And the cap off the hydrant. Obviously, not been used recently?! Interesting find.

Looks like something stopped them in the midst of cleaning up after a fire!

Love the photo, it is quite evocative.

The bright colour red looks great against the snow.
I wonder why they forgot their hoses?
Nice shot.

@gwynkm @jgpittenger @tesssa @aglennc @taffy @sansjuan @skippysue Thanks for your comments, everyone. I know this one isn't great art, but it is weirdly mysterious enough that I wanted to share the photo story.

This is actually a very interesting shot, love the pop of red! x

i like the contrast between the red hydrant and the snow.

Yeah, that's pretty weird. Volunteer fire department? Maybe they unvolunteered when it came time to put stuff away. Fightin' fires is cool... cleaning up is stupid!

Looks post-apocalyptic

@claeshields This is weird, Clae. We do have a volunteer fire department, but they are a dedicated group. Here's a blog entry I did about them recently: http://rosswalkerphotos.blogspot.com/2013/12/firefighter-training-montpelier-idaho.html This hydrant is next to railroad tracks, so I wonder if it has something to do with Union Pacific?

@lilminimonka @libertylady @soboy5 Thanks, everyone. I have enjoyed the different reactions to this image.

Very curious find. Definitely leaves the viewer wondering what the story is behind it. Nicely seen and captured!
February 5th, 2014
Cool capture. Maybe the blokes were called out to another fire?

@gwynkm @jgpittenger @tesssa @aglennc @taffy @sansjuan @skippysue @lilminimonka @libertylady @claeshields @soboy5 @pflaume @genesis_one Maybe the mystery is solved. Here's a follow up from one of the volunteer firefighters who looks in on my project: "I would bet it is the UP...they use water in some of their work. I would guess they just left the hose as you found it..and will find it this spring..we have other construction companies using water..they even leave the hose hooked to the hydrant sometimes. Not a fire department thing."

How crazy a find. Last year we had a fire hydrant wrench left behind that I photoed.

@amandal Thanks, Amanda. It was strange indeed.

The red and white is awesome...

Super colour against the snow, well composed.
