Montpelier Rearing Pond by rvwalker

Montpelier Rearing Pond

CW. This pond was once used to grow trout for planting in other locations, but now it is a great place to take kids to fish. It is usually ice free in winter, so we can catch dinner nearly any time of year. I know the rules of composition advise us not to center reflections, but that's how I like this one. What do you think?

We had a regional internet outage for much of the day yesterday, and since I was already behind on commenting, I have no hope of catching up now. So, I apologize if I miss some of your wonderful photos.

Thanks for all your great comments and favs. I'm pleased to see my neighborhood pond on the Popular Page.

@peterdegraaff Thanks for the fav, Peter. I guess the symmetry was what made me decide to center the shoreline.
March 23rd, 2014

March 23rd, 2014
Such a lovely shot! The stillness of the water, reflections of the mountains, the symmetry and proportionality is just wonderful. Center those reflections - they look great!
March 23rd, 2014
I like this with the reflections centered. I think it makes for good symmetry. If I moved it out of center, I would have used more water, less sky. But I like it like you have done it. Gorgeous.
March 23rd, 2014
I think the centering works perfectly because of the reflections. They have the center (literally) focus and the blues sandwich the mountain chain and the reflection well.
March 23rd, 2014
Wow, what a gorgeous shot. I love the reflections that you captured. FAV
March 23rd, 2014

March 23rd, 2014
Gorgeous! I like it centered :-)
March 23rd, 2014
I really find the centering rule a general advisory thing becuase this looks best this way in my opinion. I love the deeper blue in the water.
March 23rd, 2014
Spectacularly beautiful and a FAV for me. I love the crispness of the white and the blues and the mirrored composition. You should frame this one!

The composition workes well with those great reflections
March 24th, 2014
Sorry I'm so late coming to this party! What a wonderful shot Ross. I think your composition works perfectly for this image. THe slope of the hill on the leads nicely to the center of the photo. I think it would look off somehow if you hadn't centered it the way you did. Perfect exposure and just a beautiful scene! FAV
March 24th, 2014
