Chad

CW. I have been fortunate to photograph brandings twice over the last couple of weeks. Chad is the rancher who owns the cattle at the second event, and this is an unposed photo taken on site. His daughter is the cowgirl in my 04/10/14 photo.
This is wonderful Ross, because it takes me to a scene I will probably never see for real. I watched Nebraska last night and loved the wide open road driving scenes. In my mind I was telling myself that this is your neck of the woods, though you will probably tell me I am thousands of miles out!!

What a fabulous portrait. The DOF is just right and I like the balance of the composition with the lighter tones of the sleeve and the hat. Perhaps toning down the sleeve just a bit would bring your eye to the face more. Great shot of this individual.

@seanoneill Thanks for the fav, Sean. Nebraska is a long way from here, and much lower, flatter country. There are plenty of wide-open spaces near here too, though.

Amazing that you did this as a candid. You could not have created a more wonderful portrait. I love the character in his face, and the context with the sepia processing is perfect. Really great one, Ross.
April 22nd, 2014
This is a wonderful character shot and I love the way you have processed it. I wish I had been more into photography when my grandfather was alive as he worked cattle since he was 13 and had so much character in his face and actions. This is definitely a fav for me.
April 22nd, 2014
There is so much character in Chad's face and you captured it perfectly. I really like how is looking beyond you. He has a very appealing natural expression. The processing is spot on. FAV
