Shovel

CW. Nothing too exciting today, but I wonder who stuck an old shovel in this fence. They won't get it back for awhile, since the fence is in a lot of water from another snowmelt pond.

It is snowing hard, so spring has been delayed again.
It's a great shot, looks like a reasonable shovel as well, just needs a new head and handle and it's good to go! Interesting shot.

Lovely capture and great pov. We are getting some snow showers as well here! My poor flowers don't like it much!

great capture. really like the colours and tones here

I'm laughing because it is oddly something I would do... :)
April 26th, 2014
Well spotted, perhaps they use it to shovel away the snow or as a paddle :)

You have such a great sense of composition and I enjoy seeing your posts of Western life. My eye is distracted by the junk to the right of the fence post, so I wonder if it can be cloned or cropped out?

Interesting shot. Nice comp

@falcon11 Thanks, Allison. I tried cropping that stuff out and didn't like the balance when the post was up against the edge, so I decided to leave it alone. It is a pretty big area to clone out effectively.

@graemestevens LOL. Someone else to do the digging would be nice too, Graeme.

@kbird61 @brigette @darylo @nicolecampbell @moxy Thanks for all your fun comments. Maybe the previous owner got lost in the snow somewhere.

FAV...that is so hilarious...and it makes for a fabulous shot! great work!

Cool find. Wonder how long the shovel has been there? Great color. Like the weeds in the water. Great composition. Good eye!!

This has a surreal feel to it because of the shovel. That's interesting to me as otherwise, it's a beautiful fence shot. Yet the shovel totally changes it.

ready to dig when the water subsides? lovely image

A cool shot in more than one sense of the word: colours are cool; textures and focus also + F
April 27th, 2014
hmmmm, at this rate it might just come in useful as a sort of oar! ;)

Cool find, turning something simple into an intriguing shot!

I really like the way you've composed this shot. Lucky find for a subject!

'Tis a unique find. Nicely captured.

i enjoy the minimalism.

Nicely seen, good capture, Ross.

an image that makes you wonder

Great composition

@rvwalker True about the crop and too big to clone.

@vickisfotos Thanks for the fav, Viocki. I'm glad you see the humor in this.

@quietpurplehaze Thanks for the fav and the kind words, Hazel.

@aglennc @taffy @annied @monkeykid @mcsiegle @bobhuegel @blueberry1222 @ivan @sharontakade @peterdegraaff Thanks, everyone. It has been fun reading the different interpretations of this rather unusual object.

I love this shot, Ross. You make the ordinary look extraordinary, especially with the capture of the shovel in this case. Glad you are in Spring delay, at least someone is. It seems to almost have come and gone here and tending to be going towards Summer weather here. What a crazy year for weather. Hope the snow ends for good soon there.
April 28th, 2014
@darsphotos I like the spring snow, Darlene, and it's a good thing because more is on the way. Thanks for your comments on this strange shovel.
April 28th, 2014
@rvwalker I did not know you get Spring snow. Wow. Wanna send some this way. With temps in the 80's and low 90's it will feel like Summer here starting midweek. We need more rain. Heard that one of the lakes cancelled a water show. I am sure a lot will change if we do not get a lot more rain.

Great composition and intriguing story possibilities Ross. You handled the exposure beautifully. My only minor thought might be that a little more space above the shovel might give a little more breathing room to the scene.
April 29th, 2014
@mccarth1 Funny, I never really noticed how tight the space was, Kerry, but you are absolutely right. Thanks for sharing your observation.

Finally, today it is warm enough to enjoy being outside again. I really like this composition. I think the vertical shovel wrapped in the horizontal barbed wire is quite interesting to look at.
April 30th, 2014
@cmc1200 Thanks, Caryn. This was just a grab shot, but I liked the quirky shovel.

Strong composition Ross. As an example of a well composed shot, this is spot on. It should be in a photography text book.

@seanoneill Thanks, Sean. I am very pleased that you like the way this came together.
