Neither of us had been to Whitby, N Yorkshire...until today. It's half term here and families galore had subjected themselves and their dogs to the dreary weather. The ratio of dogs to their owners was stagggering. Had never seen so many enjoying their walks etc...Crufts excepted.
In the lower harbour we found the lifeboat. I was impressed to see its splendid winch/hoist to move stretchered mariners/sailors from the lifeboat crew into the hands of the medics.
The lobster pots were a bonus. I've spent more than half my life living by the sea in the Isle of Man and had a friend who was a lobster fisherman. The irony was that these lobsters were never sold in the Isle of Man. Rather they were flown to Paris!
Rather dreary here today and I took to be water and the beach for photos. Lobstering is a big thing on our coast, they are sold here and in Europe. Those traps look like the old wooden ones that were used for years.
