Every time l see this 'window', it makes my heart sing!

I've tried to take this shot several times without success. When opening the Abbey this morning methinks...I wonder if this might work with Dutch Tilt? Taken from the far end of the nave, you can see how the light from the south windows creates an illusion of another stain glass window which makes St Bartholomew ethereal.

Half way down the nave on the left is Notre Dame de Paimpont, where I'd just relit the candles bought by yesterday's visitors. The woodwork is oak, from Paimpont's forest.

Saint Bartholomew, Apostle
Of the many miracles performed by Bartholomew before and after his death, two very popular ones are known by the townsfolk of the small island of Lipari.

The people of Lipari celebrated his feast day annually. The tradition of the people was to take the solid silver and gold statue from inside the Cathedral of St Bartholomew and carry it through the town. On one occasion, when taking the statue down the hill towards the town, it suddenly became very heavy and had to be set down. When the men carrying the statue regained their strength, they lifted it a second time. After another few seconds, it got even heavier. They set it down and attempted once more to pick it up. They managed to lift it but had to put it down one last time. Within seconds, walls further downhill collapsed. If the statue had been able to be lifted, all the towns people would have been killed.

During World War II, the Fascist regime looked for ways to finance their activities. The order was given to take the silver statue of St Bartholomew and melt it down. The statue was weighed, and it was found to be only a few grams. It was returned to its place in the Cathedral of Lipari. In reality, the statue is made from many kilograms of silver and it is considered a miracle that it was not melted down.

St Bartholomew is credited with many other miracles having to do with the weight of objects.

Yeah, this works for your challenge... but it's light from the south windows projected onto the west wall. Didn't know about St. Bartholomew's miracles though - thank you.

You are having a grand time with this Dutch Tilt. I am meeting another 365r today at Old Orchard Beach and am keen to try this. Of course my excitement at finally meeting up with @dianen may overwhelm my brain.

@joansmor Have a super day...save DT for another occasion.

The DT works well. Like the shadows a great deal, also like the way you included the colored stained glass at the edge, very good shadow detail as well. Truly interesting story/legend. Magic and miracles go hand in hand at times.

This really catches the colors from the windows beautifully, and your timing with the light on St Bartholomew is wonderful

L'instant décisif. Wonderful.

I especially like the prism of colors on the wall of the window 2nd from the left.

I don't normally like tilted photos, but in this case it works really well and suits the subject matter. Love the lighting inside. And your caption makes a fascinating read, thank you.

This works well for a Dutch Tilt - love the window reflection on the wall.

@domenicododaro Modesty forbids to say more than 'Grazie mille!'

May I say that although this is a wonderful atmospheric shot as it is that taking the blue window off the top left concentrates attention more on the 'shadow window' and makes the image even more ethereal . A very lovely image.

Such an interesting story to go with this image. I love the "shadow" window. Wonderful image.

I love stained glass light filling a sanctuary to begin with so I can see why this glorious reflection makes your heart sing! fav

I like this perspective... it makes this much more than an image of a lovely bit of architecture... I think it adds an atmosphere of intrigue :)

Love that image of the window on the far wall even if it is the south, not the west, wall. Mind, if Richard is right that means the place should be dismantled and rebuilt so the orientation is east-west (as they are supposed to be!) if only to catch the morning light.
@vignouse

@yrhenwr It is indeed built east-west - this is a projected image of a south-side window on to the rear west wall.

@vignouse What a relief! I must have misunderstood your comment. Doesn't surprise me - not just the knees that cause problems for me!
February 28th, 2017
The roughness of the walls against the softness of the light is extremely compelling.
And the exchange between Richard and David made me smile :-) @vignouse @yrhenwr
