...is an initiative which started monthly sessions locally in December. The objective is to help folk to prolong the working life of things they might otherwise throw away. Think small electrical goods, tools, computers, clothing etc. I'm one of 2 ladies who effect sewing repairs for clothing and household items. The team convenes @ 8.45 am when we meet, greet, have coffee and fresh goodies from the bakery across the road. Fortified and motivated, we set up tables, install our kit and expect our customers from 9.30 - 12.30. Although there is no charge for what we do, those we've helped are encouraged to make a contribution to Repair Café...and they do.
Today I completed the alterations (almost a remake) to Marie's dress which we've titivated and rejuvenated over 3 sessions. I've done some machine work and Marie has done some handiwork in between sessions so that working together she now has a ’new' dress she hasn't worn for 3 years. Between sessions, Marie-France, my fellow dressmaker has had her sewing machine repaired by Olivier, who is something of a computer wizard. So we look after our own too!
Wonderful, detailed capture of these working hands...You seem to have such a close community and everyone seems to be generous in helping each other :).

Repair Café is alive and well worldwide. If you do a Google search, you'll see where they are, how they work and/or what to do if you'd like to join one or be instrumental in starting one. Ours is part of the town's infrastructure to help reduce waste, share skills, provide social facilities etc.
I'm a great fan of hand 'portraits' as you know so this pair of characterful hands is an easy Fav. What's even more impressive though is the crispness of the image - just look at the hairs on the back of the hand on the right. You won't have been aware of it but this was taken at 1/8 sec which is a great tribute to the five axis stabilisation in the OM-D E10ii.
