I've got my eye on you

This afternoon a friend and I went to the Biology Station - University de Rennes 1, organised by Paimpont Médiathèque to learn more about insects in the local habitat. The rest of the group was largely families with 'raring to go' children. 3 members of staff (researchers) gave the intro in the natural amphitheatre; a most suitable backdrop for the overview.

We moved on into a field, sometime pasture, where the everyone listened enthusiastically whilst another researcher arrived with a wheelbarrow containing spades and plastic boxes for specimens. A brief demo ensued of how to dig a small hole rather than a crater. Children then watched eagerly as the adults dug. Objective was to retrieve insects from the dugout.

With great enthusiasm, appropriate holes were dug, insects retrieved, safely transferred to boxes etc. Loadsa enthusiasm, interest and concentration of children and parents sifting soil through their hands to find minuscule insects. In due course, indoors in a fully equipped lab, replete with microscopes etc. the children soon mastered the fine tuning of focus and I had the pleasure of seeing some of their spiders, beetles and flies in macro.

Interesting and engaging afternoon, much enjoyed by Véro and I. The cherry on the cake, Amélie with her booty before micropscopic view.

On black? Sure thing!
Well, I elected not to go and perhaps I should have done... if only to have met the delightful Amelie whom you have captured beautifully.

When my younger brother was about 4 he had to wear a band on his right eye to correct the left one's defect... He was so tired sometimes. Beautiful portrait, that tells a story of a brave girl.

Sounds like a great time was had, and what good way of encouraging children not to be scared of insects. This is a lovely shot. I think I would have cropped it, reducing the dead space and place the plastic bowl on the upper left, rule of thirds.

@gamelee
Thank you for taking the time to make constructive and worthy feedback. I appreciate it very much and a week later can be objective about it...and totally agree with you. I was so chuffed with this shot, rational thinking was beyond the Pale!
