Estimated journey from La Gacilly to Chinon was 3 hours. It took 4. After choosing our pitch etc., we set out to do some food shopping and have a wander around C, a favoured haunt for many years. Whilst R sourced supper ingredients, M & I checked out a couple of my favourite shops selling beautiful house items and knitwear, whilst the other has a practical and attractive selection of everyday clothing. To my chagrin the first port of call was in the throes of serious reductions...and the second was already closed. On R's beat the 5*bakery was closed...for 2 weeks holiday. However, both (excellent) butchers were open. Carrefour saved the day for the missing essentials and we enjoyed a pick-me-up at a pavement bar, overlooked by Rabelais' statue.
An aperitif with raining crisps seemed the most appropriate sequel.
