1918 - 2018, 100 years since the Armistice

Today, we remember WW1 and particularly those who lost their lives whilst serving their country. Grey, damp weather prevailed...just as it did 100 years ago.

Every year at this time, Paimpont welcomes soldiers from nearby Coëtquidan, the French Army's Officer Training School. For me they represent a desire and need to defend their countrymen. After the ceremony, they joined Paimpont residents, as usual, for an aperitif before returning to Camp. As welcome and thank you speeches were being made, this shot presented itself. Whilst it’s very much a snap, I rather like the dreaminess of it and the hint of uncertainty which awaits us all.

A very somber picture

The bowed head is rather emotional but I also like the muted focus!
