A new arboreal species at Paimpont?

Serendipity led me to this rather different tree at the edge of the lake. It brings Mermaids to mind...although they're not usually found in freshwater...even in France!?

The freshwater equivalent of a mermaid is called an Ondine, a form of water sprite.

It's interesting to see specimens grow like this. I can see how some of the "scary" films for children can have "people" living in the forest.
