I VML closing Paimpont Abbey at the end of the day. It's calm, quiet and satisfying to remove spent candles and votive lights, to replenish the stock and clean spilled candle wax. It doesn’t take long and l feel affirmed in doing something which encourages locals and visitors to visit this church whose construction dates from 1199.

It’s a haven of peace...and as the days shorten and evenings come earlier...the diminishing light is calm and affirming. We're a team of 6, with each of us 'doing' a week at a time. Coming into the Abbey at 9am to total silence and re-lighting the candles and votives is a moment of joyous calm. Closing at 6pm-ish, depending on the time of year, we remove spent candles and votives and generally tidy/clean up so that our splendid church can be enjoyed by one and all every day of the year. Visitors come from all over the world, all year around, young, older and curious.

Thanks Kathy! It certainly does... I was doing this very late last night and clearly forgot. You saved me from myself.
