Credence, Paimpont Abbey by s4sayer

Credence, Paimpont Abbey

In the past a Credence was used as the place where the elements for Holy Communion were placed before their consecration. Nowadays the elements for Holy Communion are brought to the altar during Mass. As you can see, the Credence in this shot, half way down the nave, generally houses a small plant or flowers.

I never knew that Margo...it does look a very lovely niche in the wall & the perfect place for a posy of flowers! My friend & I quite often take up the bread & wine to the altar. That’s when the church is open that is...still shut here!! 😨

I like that architecturally it's an insignificant feature but spiritually it's enormously important.

An interesting feature at the abbey and also the history you present. More Google research.
