Nature...is not always what we want/expect.

These 3 free range chickens are part of our daily walk...or they used to be. Walking there with Mitzi a couple of days ago, there were no hens...yet too many feathers...evidence of an opportunistic Fox. Am gutted...

Freedom certainly does come with a cost.

A wonderful shot of these plucky hens. Sorry for their loss, but I'm afraid I agree with Wendy @farmreporter

Fox did what foxes do.

can I ask - foxes are native there aren't they?

They appear to have been happy hens, at least. A wise friend used to say "Tigers have to eat too".

@koalagardens
Yes...foxes are native...and very canny. We lost a cat...to a fox, many years ago.

Oh no Margo.....life is cruel for the humble chicken....too many predators love chicken including us humans!

I hope that the foxes also help with rodent control but I understand your sadness.
