Feet, bowl and bead by sabresun

Feet, bowl and bead

The feet are from some carved Japanese figures that I have (mahogany fishermen, there's a fish to the left of the nearest foot, you can see its glass eye near the top), the bowl was a gift from my father last Christmas. I didn't like it at first, well not much at all, as it's somewhat gaudy to my eyes. I think he picked it up from some holiday in the Mediterranean, the sort of holiday where you think everything looks amazing until you get it home. At that point it looks like it should be back in Greece. Anyway, I protest a little too much as it has grown upon me.

Inside the bowl there is a bead which was given to me by some street fortune teller some ten years ago whilst visiting Germany. He was adamant that he wanted to tell me my fortune and I wasn't keen at all in listening to some weird guy in broken English who didn't know me from Adam. In the end, he did his spiel which I listened as if listening to a door to door mop salesman and have long since forgotten. I'm not really into fortune telling, can you tell? Especially when it's pushed upon me like the aforementioned said cleaning product. He then handed me a random bead, he said it was 'my' good luck bead. I put it into my coat pocket thinking, "Uhm okay..." For no particular reason, I've kept it ever since, transferring it from old coat to new coat, occasionally to jean pocket, to wallet lining, to back of desk draw, and finally, bowl. It's as if it had been waiting for that bowl all along. Both are items that I wouldn't have chosen, yet somehow they go together like a pair of misfits finding solace. It is something of a fortunate bead to not be lost or mislaid over the years although I'm not sure that is what the fortune teller intended. You could say that I gave the bead its good fortune or perhaps I'm lucky to have had it in my pockets following me around all these years.

I think I need to write a little about my project too. I'm so far behind with it currently that I've been considering whether or not to carry on with it. I haven't felt like taking any photos recently, somehow I've just come to a gradual halt. I think what I will do is add photos when I feel I have something of interest, and if I catch up with the days then fine. If I don't, then I won't sweat it any longer, but I'll still be active with replies and such. Thank you to everyone for your support. :)
Beautiful composition here, I like the textures and shadows. It's funny what random things we hang onto over the years isn't it?

I think you can get a bit stale with this project! I am at a similar stage to you & I think the secret is to get out a bit so perhaps you are ready for a holiday to inspire you to take photos that you want to ! saying that this is an excellent story & photo ! I think somewhere inside of you thought 'better not throw that bead away ' !!

I really like this shot & its very fitting for the bead shot - all a bit Zen!! Im finding this a tough stage too - so the prospect of winter is a worry!! It's so hard to see new things. I don't think it should be a shackle round your neck - it's supposed to be fun so do what suits you. Im just trying to get through to our holidays in a week when I should think I can find something new!!

Wonderful composition and story! I really hope you stay with the project! Where will I get to see wood creatures, if you stop? Don't worry about posting everyday, but please stay on! :0)

I love beads and I love bowls and yours are a beautiful combination. What a great story too. I have a few of those random trinkets, bits of paper etc that have hung around for years. I've found it really hard to keep the momentum going with 365 too and I my pics are not anywhere near the quality of yours. So I can totally understand how you feel. And it shouldn't be a chore. So don't feel pressured but don't drop off either!!!

What a neat photo. Great story! Strange how pushy fortune tellers can be! I had a similar experience in France, but didn't get a cool bead.

Understandable about getting overwhelmed. It is SO difficult to find time and continually come up with ideas. Don't give it up entirely though. We really enjoy your photos. :)

I enjoy your entertaining take on life both words and images. Liked the tale of the misfits, funny how these little random things around our homes have stories attached.

Kismet! I love how bowl and bead have come together...Isn't it funny that we let something stress us out that was supposed to be fun and entertaining? I know I do sometimes!
