Church Gable by salza

Church Gable

For the get pushed challenge: Yena @missyenyen gave me the following challenge - this week I'm challenging you to take a picture featuring a building/architecture, either the whole thing or just a close up feature you find interesting

This church is one of the oldest buildings in Tulbagh. The church was originally built in 1795. On 29 September 1969 at exactly 22:05, Tulbagh was hit by an earthquake measuring 6, 5 on the Richter scale. This church was hardly damaged although buildings surrounding it were in ruins! Eleven people lost their lives, although many others miraculously escaped death.

@missyenyen thanks for the challenge, it made me take a walk around the village I live in!

@salza glad you enjoyed completing the challenge, your photo is beautiful and I love that you added the back story, gives an interesting/slightly sinister edge to such an idyllic scene... I *will* complete your challenge tomorrow, it's a turned into a bit of a doozey (in a good way! Lol)

I can see why you find this building interesting and it looks particularly striking against the lovely blue sky.

Lovely capture of the gable. And good to hear you took a walk around the village. Thanks too for the link to Cape Town Gazette. It was quite chilling seeing those old pics again. I remember we were in Durban that night. The cupboard door slowly swung open and we were convinced the hotel room was haunted. The following day we found out about the earthquake.
