My get pushed challenge from Oksana Vejus @oksana - "The assignment for you is Low-key portrait."
This is my attempt, not sure if it fits the bill correctly but I have really battled with this one
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
I felt that it would be a portrait of the dog :))) She is beautiful - great model. Just for low-key concept I would make the background darker and add a light accent for more dramatic effect. But still love this portrait!
@oksana this was not my original plan but other attempts failed horribly. I have one more experiment which I shall try tomorrow and I hope it will work :-)
she's a really photogenic dog, and this is one of your best shots, but it's not really low key, imho. you've done low key shots before of your shell, do you know that? or you can shoot kaela again (with the camera of course tee-hee!) in a darker setting with just one light to the side. you can do it, my good friend.
Low key is tough- especially in color. If I was home, I'd be running to the book shelf right now to grab Peterson's book and look up the definition for you! People often combine low key and low light, but I think there is a subtle difference. I will definitely have to check it out when I get home as now my curiosity is going. Kaela of course takes a lovely picture in any lighting!
@summerfield@swilde I agree with both of you that this isn't a true low key capture! I was getting so frustrated with myself and my ideas that weren't panning out. It is so difficult trying to organize lighting, I have only got my on camera flash!
@salza - i don't think that you can get a good result with flash. pretty sure you have a table lamp or flash light. those are what I use even though I have these fancy schmancy softbox lighting crap. :-) i keep babbling here maybe i should try a low key portrait myself. hmmmm... maybe i'll make partner a nice dinner.
