Orb

Get-pushed challenge - Juliette's challenge to me: "I'm going to challenge you to take a torch and go out after dark, put your camera on a steady surface (tripod if you have one) and have some fun with your Bulb function (should be a B on your dial!). Hope this will be a fun challenge..."
Second attempt, manual mode, shutter speed 30 seconds. aperture f/4.5
Alternate shot - November word list: http://365project.org/salza/365/2012-11-17

woah look at you go! This is fantastic - much better than my first attempts....I must go and give this another go now our evenings have drawn in! Smashing shot. I on the other hand am in massive FAIL mode...I've tried and tried to get a camera movement shot and they all look like I'm a 5 year old picking up a camera for the first time - in fact, that probably is unfair to 5 year olds!! *hangs head in shame*! I am however not going to give up - I will try again tomorrow and next week - I will not be beaten!!

Fabulous shot!! A group of us tried the same sort of thing on the beach, with fire last night. Check it out: http://365project.org/momsta/year-2growing

@momsta the beach is a great place to be able to work with fire. Did you use steel wool? I would be scared to attempt it round here now for fear of setting fire to the fields! Will have to wait for winter when everything is wet again.

@summerfield Thanks Vikki! I'm using battery operated fairy lights that I rolled up and attached to a piece of string. The length of the string was from my waist to my foot (not quite to the ground). Think I was about 5m from the camera. I left the lights on the ground to get the focus then picked up the string, held my elbow at waist height and gently swung the lights around whilst slowly turning on the spot.

@salza - cool! thanks, sally. my friend in california ordered a set of fairy lights for me (not available here in toronto, at least not retail) so i will give this light trail/orb shots once i receive them. once again, i can categorically say, everything i learned in photography i learned in 365! it's great, isn't it?

Very cool shot, Sally! So, I've had a look through your albums, too, and I am going to challenge you to do a negative space or minimalist shot (or high key if you have already done that). If you combine the two you get extra credit. Glad to be your partner this week and thanks for the water challenge!
