Nguni by salza

Nguni

Whilst out walking the dogs I cam across a herd of Nruni cattle. They were very inquisitive and wanted to get as close as possible to the dogs. I have always discouraged my dogs from getting close to any farm animals so they were trying to hide behind me!

The Nguni cattle breed is special to southern Africa. A hybrid of different Indian and later European cattle breeds, they were introduced by Bantu-speaking tribes to southern Africa during their migration from the north of the continent. The cattle breed is medium-sized and adapted to grazing on the highveld. - Wikipedia
Really unusual markings - you wouldn't want those magnificent horns anywhere near your dogs.

Wonderful array of colourings on these beasties. My dogs used to take no notice at all of cattle who wanted to sniff them all the time!

@maggiemae Skye is a natural herder so she always wants to round everything up!

Their horns are quite magnificent.

They are really a majestic looking animal! So different than ours in Canada that are stockier and meatier. But then, I imagine this breed does not require a lot of water like ours do.
Thank you for including the info on them as well.

Fearsome looking horns! Your dogs sound very sensible. My silly sheltie took on a small herd once till they chased her!
