Grand River Dam - pray it holds

We drove over to see the dam yesterday. It was quite spectacular. It was quite scary driving across the very narrow bridge over the dam.

This is first hydroelectric facility constructed in Oklahoma. GRDA built the dam between December 30, 1938, and March 21, 1940, when depression-era labor was abundant. It is located between the communities of Langley and Disney, spanning a mile across the Grand River Valley and holding back the 43,500 acres of water that form Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. The six units at Pensacola Dam have a combined generation capacity of approximately 120 MW. The dam has 21 floodgates on the main spillway and 21 on the east spillways.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your time.
Hoping that it holds...

@dide @madeinnl @yaorenliu yes as you drive on top — the water gushing to your right below and on your left is the lake with level just below the railing- we decided not to cross back over 😬

Amazing sight - sure hoping for no more rain this week. We're nearly at 20 feet above flood stage for the river.

It's a mighty structure and a powerful image. Always so thrilling to see such movement against something that is so resiliently static.
