Lately there has been quite the frenzy at the feeder. Last night we must have had over 20 hummers fighting to get to the feeders. I tried to get the aerobatics, but I failed miserably. First I was hand holding and secondly I had the wrong lens. So what felt like a million shots, I only got a few semi-good ones. Of course none with the view of several Of the hummingbirds fighting each other came out. I shall try again.
So here is what I got for now. I messed and played with the second one in my extras way too long.
I think this is great...love the lighting. I think hummingbirds are pretty impossible to capture on a tripod. I’ll go check your EXIF to see if I have any suggestions. FYI most of the people I know delete a huge percentage of their shots. I know I do
I see the EXIF isn’t here. If you want me to see if I have any suggestions, send them to me...also camera, lens, etc. And as Milanie suggested continuous shooting mode and focus
@jgpittenger thanks Jane. I am not sure why my EXIF isn’t there.... never has been so I don’t know what I am doing wrong there either. Maybe a setting in LR? That’s how I import then do minor adjustments then go into PS. I have a Nikon d7200... Had my 55-200m lens on. manual mode, continuous shooting ( but low) I just checked and I had it set AFS-S so while focusing on feeder the birds would be out of focus -so my focus mode was wrong ? I just usually have it on that and didn’t think To check ....so I should be AFC ? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Beautiful lighting, great capture! The hummers at our feeders are very territorial and as such there's ever only one at a time. How cool to see so many!
@samae are you focusing On the feeder thinking that the birds will be on the same plane or same distance from your lens as the feeder? If so, AFS would be best I think. I usually have mine set of Sony’s equivalent to AFC but I’m trying to get focus spot or zone on the hummer rather than the feeder. I’d also increase your speed to high not low. What are you using for F stop and Shutter speed? Does the D 7200 have auto ISO as an option?
