At the Environmental Learning Center this afternoon one of the signs talked about dead trees becoming a source of food and shelter.

I was just walking through our local hickory-maple woods commenting on how much dead wood there is (from when the oaks came down years ago) and how they are slowly decomposing...and how that really changes the place.
