BOATS – ALL SHAPES, ALL SIZES by sangwann

BOATS – ALL SHAPES, ALL SIZES

My first shot after I had parked at the L-Isla (Senglea) Waterfront. It was so scorching hot there, Not a single sign of shade
This is Dockyard Creek, one of the sheltered creeks around the harbour. During the Knights of St John period this was where the galleys and galleons of the order were serviced. Here is also the Macina where pulleys were erected which could lower or remove the masts of the vessels for maintenance, ect. There is a yacht marina nowadays in this creek on the Birgu (Vittoriosa) side. In the background of the shot is Valletta. On the right is the famous Fort St Angelo which was the Order’s headquarters and main defensive position during the Ottoman siege in 1565 and later became the Headquarters of the British fleet in the Mediterranean. Extensive restoration works are earmarked for this historic fort.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.

Great capture, love the way the background of sandstone buildings marches down to the water. The vessels of the past would look majestic in this setting.

fantastic Pov, as the blue boats start the curved line which draws your eye to the sandstone buildings. lovely composition and reflections.

I love the depth and detail in this pic, and the contrast between foreground boats and space, and background densely packed with buildings :)

When you look at that scene, you realize, there are no trees in that City or village, except for a few decorative ones, no shade though, just a city of concrete structures. I can imagine it must have been hot

A great view on the harbour and that lovely city behind it. Thanks for the interesting info

I like the view of the old city against the sea, then all the boats--modern to classic in the harbor. As someone above pointed out, not a single green shady spot to be seen! But I'm guessing inside the stone buildings is cooler.

Wonderful harbour shot Dione.

Yes, the lack of trees would definitely make it much hotter! But hopefully a breeze from the sea might help things stay a little cooler if it's blowing. I like the colorful harbor buoys.
