The Point – a front view.
This shopping complex stands on an area which was a military football ground. I remember it well because I played many matches against military and local teams here. The complex is built downwards, instead of upwards and on top of the building is a full-size football pitch, currently in the hands of Sliema Wanderers Football Club – one of the most glorious on the Island. The area was a vast military camp with lots of dwellings for the British soldiers and their families. The dwellings have been replaced with high-rise luxury apartments with fantastic views over the sea. The arches around the complex formed part of the former British Barracks, they were dismantled and rebuilt here as a reminder of Malta’s past.
