Sunday morning I was out with my eldest brother, Joe. After a short stroll along the Sliema promenade we finished up – like we normally do on Sundays – at the Salesians Youth Club where we sit for a coffee and mix with friends of the past. The morning started with sunshine but by mid-day it started raining and continued through the night. Same thing yesterday when we had a hail storm.
The Salesians Youth Club is a religious institution run by the Salesians of Don Bosco. Their aim is to reach children and youths through the enjoyment of sports and other activities. When we were kids, and like many of the Sliema children, we used to attend this place. My brother is still active there and he is the Commanding Officer of the Salesians’ Brigade. My uncle (rip) from my father’s side was a priest of this Order, too.
An activity that was going on on the premises was a car wash for charity. These young ones were having a fun time washing this car.
Joke: The other day I woke up early in the morning and seeing that it was going to be a beautiful sunny day, I decided to wash the car after many months of dirt had accumulated on it.
Half way through the job my blond neighbour comes out still in his pygamas. With a sarcastic smile on his face, he says: “You washing your car?”
I quickly replied: “No. Im watering it to see if it grows into a bus...”
And he replied: “How long will it take to grow up?”
Many thanks for looking and for the lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
Great capture with the young ones having fun and raising money. The Salesians do great job around the world; also with the Maria Auxiliadora and the girls. FAV
