Sunday, 8th – Gozo. A beautiful day to enjoy – and we really did.
This is Gozo,s Cittadella or small city. This is also referred to as ‘Il Castello’ or the castle. It is Gozo’s medieval city standing on top of one of the highest hills in Gozo. During the period of the Knights of St John and Malta the walls were strengthened - the original medieval walls are on the right side while the additions are on the left side of the picture. Gozo was frequently visited by Barbary corsairs and the people they could lay their hands on were taken prisoners to be sold as slaves. On one occasion the whole population of Gozo was captured and taken prisoner. After that, a decree was issued ordering all Gozo residents to spend the nights within the walls of the Cittadella for their own safety.
Joke:The king summoned to his castle his favourite astrologer and asked: “How long will my mistress remain by my side?” The astrologer replied, with a tremor in his voice.: “She will die very soon.” Sure enough, the woman died within a few days.
The king was outraged as he was certain that the astrologer’s prophecy had brought about the woman’s death. So he summoned the astrologer and commanded him: “Prophecy, tell when you will die.”
The astrologer realised that whatever his reply, the king would put him to death immediately so he replied:”I don’t know when I will die. I only know that whenever I die, the king will die three days later.”
There was a partial eclipse of the sun, yesterday. It was about 25% here. I took some shots which I will show after I finish this series.
