XLENDI BAY by sangwann

XLENDI BAY

Sunday, 8th – Gozo. This is the entrance to Xlendi Bay seem from the cliffs as we continued our Sunday walk. Until some years ago the buildings on the opposite side of the bay were inexistent. If you look closely at the tip of the rocks there is the Xlendi Watch Tower, erected there during the period of the Knights to give early warning of attacks from Barbary corsairs.
The Maltese Islands are said to have been the peaks of the mountainous terrain which linked Europe to Africa millions of years ago. When the land subsided they remained above sea level. I think that that is the reason why the valleys are deep and narrow leading to small bays. There is also a theory that the Maltese Islands once formed part of the lost city of Atlantis.
Joke: A young lady was about to jump off a cliff to end her life. Just as she was about to leap to her death, a homeless man approached from behind and shouted to ask her a question, "Excuse me miss! Before you jump would you like to have sex with me?" The woman replied angrily, "No I most certainly would not! How dare you try and take advantage of me in a situation like this!" The homeless responded, "Very well then, I'll just wait and ask you when you get to the bottom."
Thank you so much for looking and for the lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
