Shot taken on the morning of Good Friday. Enlarge for best view, if you have time – thank you.
When I saw this statue I was mesmerised and kept coming back to it for more photos. In the chapel behind the statue there was a rose window which made lighting good but which stole some of the beauty of this statue. So I did some playing around with the background. The pose of Christ reaching out with his hand to buffer the fall and the features in the face and body as well as the textures of the tree are magnificent and looked so real.
This statue – probably of papier mache – was in Għarb Parish Church. The church does not have a set of Holy Week statues and no procession takes place there. There was only this statue which I think is the most beautiful of all those I had seen. Għarb is another small rural village in Gozo.
Joke: "Dad, when can I have a car?"
"When you shave and get a haircut."
"Well, Dad, I've been reading the Bible a lot lately, and I understand that Jesus didn't cut his hair or shave his beard."
"Yes, and he also walked everywhere he went."
Thank you very much for your lovely comments and for the fav's on yesterday's picture.
That is the most beautiful display and I actually do like the light from the window that provides a bit of an ethereal feel to this. FAV for sure! Cute joke :-0
