This is a Maltese dajgħsa (pron. die-sa). When I was a little boy these boats were the Maltese water taxis – their propulsion was two oars worked by the boatsman. Today they use outboard motors. The reflection of the outboard motor of this one looks like a man fixing something on the boat.
The dajgħsa has been ‘out of service’ for a long time and few are still sea-worthy. Most of them are used to take tourists for a relaxing (romantic also) tour of the harbours or creeks. The owner of this one named it The Love Boat.
Joke: My friend wanted a boat more than anything. His wife kept refusing, but he bought one anyway. "I'll tell you what," he told her, "In the spirit of compromise, why don't you name the boat?"
Being a good sport, she accepted. When her husband went to the dock for his maiden voyage, this is the name he saw painted on the side: "For Sale."
Thank you so much for looking and for all the lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
You are right about the reflection! dI did think it was a man sitting there, sad that they are not in use anymore like they used to be though. Great pic though, Makes me want to travel.
Great shot of this beautiful old boat. I do like the small traditional boats the best. We`ve every 4 years a meeting of the big ones and the small are there for decoration. But I love those the best.
Lovely shot - like the way you composed this one and its background. That water is beautiful and shows the reflections and colors nicely. The boats are wonderful. Loved today's joke!
gorgeous capture of these old boats. agree, the reflection does look like a man fixing something.
Am sure these boats will soon be lucrative to use for tourists.
