Shot taken on 4th July, 2015 – the 9th day of our holiday in the Black Forest.
4th July is France’s National Day. The Bartholdi Museum at Colmar was open to visitors for free on the occasion. We hadn’t in mind at visiting this museum but we went in for the reason that entrance was free.
There were some gorgeous sculptures in there and I took many shots. On the left is the one I liked most. Next to it is the actual model of the ear of the Statue of Liberty. I included Ian in the shot to show its size.
Bartholdi was the designer of the Statue of Liberty, a gift from the French people to the United States. Before starting his commission, Bartholdi had traveled to the United States and personally selected Bedloe's Island as the site for the statue. The United States funded the building of the pedestal. In October 1886, the structure was officially presented both to the nation and to all aspirers to liberty within the world, as the joint gift of the French and American people.
Joke: The lawyer says to the wealthy art collector tycoon: “I have some good news and, I have some bad news….”
The tycoon replies: “I’ve had an awful day, let’s hear the good news first?
The lawyer says: “Well your wife invested £5,000 in two pictures this week that she figures are worth a minimum of £2 to £3 million.”
The tycoon replies enthusiastically: “Well done…very good news indeed!
You’ve just made my day; now what’s the bad news?”
The lawyer answers: “The pictures are of you with your secretary.”
Many thanks for looking and for all the lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
I guess we can call the Statue of Liberty 'big ears' from now on...
