From the 3rd day of our Sicily holiday - 21st September, 2015.
Although it was intended to be a relaxing holiday we still drove (Ian drove actually) to Syracuse (a long drive of almost 2 hours) and our first stop was to visit the Sanctuary of the Weeping Madonna. Christine and I (with Denise as a little girl of around 5 years) had been there many years previously. The dome of the church looks like a closed umbrella. On the left of this collage is how it is seen from the outside and on the left is an inside view. Those ribs are of concrete, even though they seem to be made of wood.
Joke: Joe was coming out of church one day, and the priest was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands. He grabbed Joe by the hand and pulled him aside.
The Priest said to him, "You need to join the Army of the Lord!"
Joe replied, "I'm already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor." The priest questioned, "How come I don't see you except at Christmas and Easter?"
Joe whispered back, "I'm in the secret service."
Many thanks for looking and for all the lovely comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture. Very much appreciated.
I love the strong shapes in each picture, and the strong contrasts between the two - they complement each other really well. The B&W works perfectly too.
A long drive in Australia is about 10 hours. 2 would be a breeze. What a beautiful use of light and shade in these two images. Have a little bit of internet speed this early in the month so "making hay while the sun shines" as they say.
Great pairing of the two shots. I agree 2 hours isn't long here, but if I have to drive at all (instead of hop a train or bus), I consider it a strenuous day!!
Great presentation - I like your idea to show the exterior and interior of the building as a diptych. The geometry of the building is lovely and the b&w works well to show it off.
Great lines and patterns love the B&W Fav.
