Took this shot some days ago when I went walking along the Victoria Lines. This is typical Maltese countryside with the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq (Pebbly Sea or Sea of Pebbles) coastline and the Mediterranean in the background. Fields in Malta are small but produce great quality crop with the good soil and sunshine almost all the year round. Irrigation is however always a must.
The Victoria Lines is a defensive wall with forts along the way which divides Malta in two. As you may guess they were built during the reign of Queen Victoria when Malta was a very important British colony in the centre of the Mediterranean. The Lines were meant as a line of defence in case of an invasion from the north (or, less probable, from the south).
Many thanks for looking and for your wonderful comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture.
