GĦARGĦUR CHAPEL by sangwann

GĦARGĦUR CHAPEL

Dedicated to the Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary Into Heaven.
I have taken many shots of this chapel as the area has been a favourite place with us to go walking in the countryside but I have never posted a picture of it. The chapel faces a valley and I took the shot from the opposite side.
This chapel which is situated on the outskirts of Għargħur was originally built in 1560 in the place where it is said that The Madonna appeared to a sick young lady and miraculously healed her; the place soon became a pilgrimage site. The chapel was rebuilt in 1650. It is one of the many chapels that can be found around the Maltese countryside. The chapel is open for prayers on Saturdays.
