DE VILHENA COAT OF ARMS

Detail on the arch of the entrance to Mdina taken in hdr. You can see part of the marble sign on top showing the year as 1724, the year when the entrance was rebuilt in the Baroque style. The coat of arms are of António Manoel de Vilhena (Portuguese) who was Grand Master of the Order of St John (and of Malta) from 19 June 1722 to his death in 1736. Like the Pope, Grandmasters were elected for life.
Many thanks for viewing and for the comments and fav's on yesterday's picture.

@catsmeowb There were five of them, all Frenchmen. They were from the French secret service (like the CIA). They were all killed in the crash. Nobody knows, as yet, what their role was on this trip. Looks like it was surveillance over Libya.

@catsmeowb

There has not been issued an official statement to this effect. So this seems to be only an assumption.

If I'm seeing it correctly, that's a crown above Coat of Arms. Amazing details you've captured.

Fantastic details on the sculpting and door. That's great to be taking walks with your granddaughter- no matter what the reason. I'm sure it will be a memory she treasures when she's older- but for now it's just fun!
