VICTORIA GATE by sangwann

VICTORIA GATE

From last Saturday’s walk-about in Valletta.

Named after Queen Victoria, this is one of the gates to Valletta. It is not the original gate which was built during the reign of Pietro del Monte, the 50th Grand Master of the Order of Saint John from 1568 to 1572. Sadly the original gate was demolished to make access to Valletta easier from the harbour side. Still I think this gate is very beautiful. I have seen a picture of the original gate – it was less elaborate in design.
Thank you so much for looking and for your comments and fav's on yesterday's picture.
